I am a firm believer that art can be used to teach anything. Math, science, Reading, Languages, S.T.E.A.M. or STEM, and so much more. I LOVE integrating core subjects into my art lessons. This provides my students with holistic project-based learning and allows to let things process in both hemispheres of the brain.
For example, in 2022 our Title 1 PK-8 learners are an average of 2 grade levels behind specifically in reading. I have taken the initiative in 2022 to embed language, letters, reading and ELA into nearly ALL PK-3 art lessons this school year. There is a district goal, that by 2027, all students in FNESU will be reading on grade level by the end of third grade. I am doing my part to help achieve this goal. I work collaboratively with all school teachers for cross-curricular integration in all subject areas and all grades. The librarian and I worked together to develop Middle School curriculum to co-teach a daily Enrichment class on Graphic Novels. Students learned story boarding, plot and character development, researched and studied a wide range of graphic novels to study the artistic style, gain inspiration and create their own books. They learned book binding and held Sheldon School's very own first annual ComicCon. Science Pictures Alphabet Soup with Letters Graphic Novels: https://youtu.be/_f1tKirhSlU Comments are closed.
